Our Mission Statement

At Bliss & Wisdom Compassion Farm & Animal Sanctuary, together with our supporters and volunteers, we create a welcoming space where diverse families and students discover the joy of sustainable farming & living, develop empathy through caring for rescued animals, while building connections with nature — all guided by universal values of compassion and kindness.

Our Challenges and Opportunities

Current Challenges

As renters, we face ongoing constraints that limit our mission’s full potential. Rising rent costs create budget pressures, while lease restrictions prevent us from customizing facilities for optimal animal care and educational programming. We cannot build specialized animal housing, wellness facilities, or permanent outdoor learning spaces that would best serve our residents and visiting families. This means operating within existing structures rather than creating the ideal sanctuary environment our mission deserves.

Ownership Opportunities

  • Lasting Value: Transform monthly rent payments into permanent facilities and improvements that directly benefit animals and visiting families for generations
  • Custom Facilities: Design specialized animal housing, wellness centers, and educational spaces tailored to our sanctuary’s needs.
  • Program Expansion: Create permanent outdoor classroom, educational farms, and community spaces for enhanced family education.
  • Operational Freedom: Implement improvements that maximize animal comfort and visitor experience without lease restrictions.

$2.35M to purchase land in Rowland Heights
serving the Greater Los Angeles with a permanent animal sanctuary
and lasting access to compassion and kindness education.

The Oasis Advantage: What Makes This Location So Special

Imagine a place where your children can learn about caring for rescued animals, where families from all backgrounds come together, and where the hustle and bustle of city life gives way to the peaceful sounds of a working farm. That’s exactly what we can create at this new location on Desire Avenue in Rowland Heights.

This unique property offers something incredibly rare in Southern California: genuine farm space that’s easy for everyone in our community to reach. Whether you’re driving from Diamond Bar or taking the bus from Pomona, whether your kids go to school in West Covina or Covina, this location puts our sanctuary right in the heart of where families actually live, work, and learn.

It’s not too far out in the countryside where only people with cars can visit, and it’s not squeezed into an urban area where there’s no room for animals to roam freely. It’s perfectly positioned to serve all of our communities.

A Home for All Our Communitites

Serving Over 400,000 Neighbors

Our location sits at the friendly center of five wonderful Greater Los Angeles communities including but not limited to Rowland Heights, Diamond Bar, West Covina, Hacienda Heights – all well known for excellent schools and family values.
Together, that’s over 400,000 people who could easily visit, volunteer, and benefit from our sanctuary.

Why This Matters for Your Family

Every family, no matter their background, will find something meaningful here:

  • Families who value education can explore hands-on learning about sustainability, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship
  • Families with agricultural roots can reconnect with farming traditions and share these experiences with the next generation
  • Families seeking community can gather for seasonal celebrations, cultural events, and shared meals in our welcoming farm setting
  • All families can build lasting connections through the universal language of caring for rescued animals

The beauty is that when children from different communities come together to feed a rescued goat or plant vegetables, they discover what unites us: compassion, curiosity, and a love for all living things.

Easy to Get to from Anywhere

For families who drive: Multiple freeways make us easy to reach – whether you’re coming from the 60, 57, 10, or other major roads, you won’t have to navigate through complicated city traffic to get here.

For families using public transportation: The area is well-served by bus routes and transit connections, so families without cars can still bring their children for programs and events.

For school field trips: Teachers and school staff tell us this location is perfect because buses can easily reach us from any of the nearby school districts without long, expensive trips.

For weekend family visits: Unlike sanctuaries hidden away in remote areas, families can make this a regular part of their lives – not just a once-a-year expedition.

What This Means for Your Children

Your kids won’t just visit once and never return because it’s “too far.” Instead, they can:

  • Join ongoing programs throughout the school year
  • Volunteer regularly as they get older
  • Bring friends without it being a major journey
  • Participate in seasonal events and celebrations
  • Feel like the sanctuary is part of their neighborhood

Why We Can’t Wait – And Why This Location Won’t Come Again

The Simple Truth About Real Estate

Properties like this just don’t become available. Here’s why:

Farm-suitable land close to good schools and family neighborhoods? Almost impossible to find in Southern California. Most farm sanctuaries are either:

  • So far out that only the most dedicated families can visit regularly
  • So small and urban that animals don’t have proper space to roam and be healthy

But this property gives us both: genuine farm space AND easy access for families.

What Happens If We Wait?

Real talk from families who’ve seen this before:

  • Prices keep going up – what costs $X today will cost much more next year
  • Development pressure means farm-suitable properties get turned into housing or commercial use
  • Other organizations are looking at the same opportunities but for different purposes
  • Your children miss out enhanced programs and experiences while we search for alternatives

The families who support us now will be able to say “We helped make this happen,” as their children grow up benefiting from programs that wouldn’t exist otherwise.

Join Us Today in Building a Lasting Urban Oasis of Peace & Care

Our nonprofit is powered entirely by the generosity of volunteers and donors. With your support, we can secure the future of our community’s Compassion Farm and Animal Sanctuary — an urban oasis where people and animals thrive together.
Every contribution, big or small, helps us create a lasting legacy of kindness, education, and care for future generations.

Our Vision for Compassion Farm & Animal Sanctuary

This sanctuary will be a place where rescued animals find safety, children learn compassion, and neighbors discover the joy of working with nature rather than against it. Every area is designed to create connections – between people and animals, between families and their food sources, and between our community and the natural world that sustains us all.

Each space tells a story of hope, healing, and the incredible things that happen when we choose compassion. We’d love to have you be part of creating this special place.

🎓 The Learning Center & Kid’s Program Area

Where students discover compassion through hands-on learning

These beautiful barn buildings will welcome school groups and summer campers for immersive programs focused on animal care and compassion. Students won’t just observe from a distance – they’ll learn responsibility by feeding rescued animals, understanding each creature’s needs, and discovering how kindness toward animals builds empathy for all living beings. The classroom spaces flow into outdoor areas where learning happens through real interaction with gentle farm animals who love meeting new friends.

🌱 Urban Garden & Compassion Farm with Sunday Market

Where community grows together, naturally

The urban garden offers a peaceful retreat where neighbors can learn about thriving alongside nature – growing food without pesticides and discovering how beneficial insects and natural systems work together. It’s a place to slow down and reconnect with how food really grows.

The compassion farm, lovingly maintained by our volunteer community, produces fresh, healthy food that feeds both our rescued animals and our neighbors. On the special Sunday, the harvest becomes a celebration when we open our market, sharing the fruits (and vegetables!) of this collaborative care. Families gather to buy fresh produce while children play nearby with the animals who helped inspire this abundance.

🦙 The Heart of Farm Life

Where daily wonder unfolds

At the center of everything, daily farm life buzzes with activity. The bee observation area shows children how these amazing creatures work together to pollinate the plants that feed us all. In the animal zones, gentle sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, and alpacas welcome visitors with curiosity and trust. The covered farm areas allow year-round programs where families learn how caring for animals and growing food connects us to the natural world in meaningful ways.

🐴 Animal Sanctuary & Peaceful Zones

Where rescued animals find peace, and visitors find perspective

The upper pastures provide spacious, safe homes for our larger rescued animals – horses, goats, and turkey who can finally live without fear. The zen garden and walking paths create quiet spaces for reflection, where visitors can process the powerful experience of meeting animals who’ve overcome hardship. These peaceful areas remind us that healing – whether for animals or people – often happens best in moments of stillness and connection with nature.

This Is Our Moment

  • The Property – a perfect farm space in the heart of our thriving neighborhoods
  • The Mission – a sanctuary where rescued animals heal and children learn compassion
  • The Plan – Uniting proven concepts and programs to deliver lasting impact for generations
  • The Support – families, schools, and volunteers, ready to embrace this vision

By supporting us, you’re not just helping animals—you’re creating a place where children make lasting memories, families connect across differences, teachers bring lessons to life, compassion defines our community, and rescued animals find a true home.

Years from now, when children who grew up visiting our sanctuary become adults who treat all living beings with kindness, you’ll know that your support made that possible.
This is our chance. This is our place. This is our time.
Will you join us in making it happen?

一念慈心 萬物歸仁A thought of compassion leads all beings to benevolence

One Mission, Multiple Ways to Care

Our Compassion Farm & Animal Sanctuary brings together three established programs that have been quietly transforming lives in Southern California:

Compassion Education — Since 2017, we’ve been transforming both land and lives. We began by turning a weedy, neglected piece of land in Rowland Heights into a thriving educational farm where we grow organic vegetables and fruits and host annual Earth Day celebrations that unite our community around shared values of environmental stewardship and life protection.

Through this work, it became clear that when people of all ages learn to care for rescued animals and grow their own food, they naturally develop empathy that extends to all living beings. Our educational programs offer experiences where compassion arises on its own—not through lectures, but through the simple act of feeding a rescued sheep or harvesting vegetables they planted with their own hands. In this way, the timeless teaching of compassion reveals itself not as theory, but as lived experience in daily life.

Little Parrot Farm focuses on compassion agriculture, animal sanctuary, and environmental education, teaching children and families how to live in harmony with nature. Through hands-on learning, visitors discover that caring for the earth means caring for each other.

Happy Baa Baa Land began as a rescue mission, saving sheep from their dismal end and giving them safe, loving homes. What started as animal rescue grew into something beautiful – a place where families learn that every life has value and every creature deserves compassion.

Our No-Kill Promise

At the heart of our mission is an unwavering commitment: every animal that comes to our sanctuary receives lifetime care. We never euthanize animals due to space, age, illness, or behavioral challenges. Instead, we provide whatever medical care, special accommodations, or extra attention each animal needs to live with dignity and joy. This no-kill policy isn’t just about saving lives – it’s about teaching children and families that every life has value, and that true compassion means caring for others even when it’s difficult or expensive.

Real Impact, Real Change

Over the years, our integrated approach has created meaningful change:

  • Over 10,000 total visitors have experienced our programs
  • 2,500+ children have learned through hands-on interaction with rescued animals and sustainable farming
  • 1,300 students visited our educational programs in 2025 alone, with schools booking through November
  • Nearly 200 animals saved from neglect or harm, including over 100 sheep – all living under our no-kill commitment
  • 81 rescued animals currently call our farm and sanctuary home, living out their natural lives in safety and comfort
  • Countless families have discovered the joy of growing their own food without pesticides or harmful chemicals

Our Educational Mission

We don’t just talk about compassion – we create experiences where it grows naturally. When children feed rescued sheep who once faced uncertain futures, they learn that their actions can heal the world. When families work together in organic gardens, they discover that healthy food and healthy communities grow from the same roots: care, patience, and respect for all living things.

Our programs reach into local schools, teaching children about cooperation, responsibility, and the incredible interconnectedness of all life. We guide teenagers through understanding climate change and biodiversity not as overwhelming problems, but as challenges they can help solve through simple, daily choices.

Community at the Center

Beyond school programs, we host workshops and community events that help families integrate sustainable living into their daily routines. From learning about regenerative agriculture to preparing healthy meals with fresh, local ingredients, our community gatherings prove that environmental stewardship can be both practical and joyful.

Looking Forward Together

We’ve proven that this vision works. Now we’re ready to grow it into something even more beautiful – a place where every visitor leaves understanding that caring for animals, protecting the environment, and building strong communities aren’t separate goals, but different expressions of the same fundamental truth: we’re all connected, and when we choose compassion, everything flourishes.
Join us in creating a place where children discover their capacity for kindness, families reconnect with the natural world, and rescued animals find not just safety, but a community that celebrates their lives for as long as they live.

Common Questions & Answers

About Fundraising

How much are you raising, and how will funds be used?

Target: $2.35 million. Funds will primarily go toward purchasing new farm land, caring for animals, and improving existing facilities (animal barns, tools, fencing, etc.). If donations exceed $2.35M, the surplus will support related construction, equipment purchases, and ongoing maintenance.

How will you ensure my donation is used well?

All donations are dedicated solely to land, animals, and existing farm infrastructure. A full financial report will be provided after the campaign so every supporter can see how funds were used.

Who should I make a check payable to—BWLA or BWCO?

Either one works. The organization’s legal name is Bliss & Wisdom Charitable Organization (BWCO), which is used most often. BWLA is a registered AKA (alias) still accepted by many supporters, so checks to BWCO or BWLA both process correctly.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

No minimum. Give what you can—every gift plants a seed that will take root in the land, in the animals’ lives, and in the hearts of future generations.

Besides donating money, how else can I participate?

You can volunteer, help promote events/outreach, and invite friends and family to get involved so more people learn about and support the mission.

Do you issue receipts? Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. We are a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit and can issue donation receipts; tax deductibility applies within the United States.

About Farm & Sanctuary

What kinds of animals do you have and where do they come from?

Our residents include alpacas, hens, roosters, ducks, pigs, rabbits, cats, dogs, and sheep. They were rescued from meat farms, animal shelters, and sometimes directly from the streets.

What is the “no-kill” policy and how is it practiced?

We are 100% committed to a “no-kill” policy at our animal sanctuary. Every life is precious, and we provide the best possible veterinary care, nutrition, and a nurturing environment. Even the most vulnerable animals are given the chance to heal, thrive, and live with dignity.

What activities are available for the public at the farm and sanctuary?

  • Tours: Individuals, schools, and groups are welcome to visit, learn about organic farming, beekeeping, and meet our sanctuary animals.
  • Volunteering: From composting to animal care, volunteers can share time and energy while learning and making a positive impact. Student service hours and internships are also available.
  • Education: We offer adult workshops (such as gardening and soap-making) and children’s programs (including summer camps and cooking classes) to keep learning fun, practical, and inspiring for all ages.

How do the farm and sanctuary support the environment?

By practicing organic farming, composting, water conservation, and biodiversity protection, we reduce waste and support healthy ecosystems. Our sanctuary animals also help teach visitors about compassion and sustainable living.

How can people support the sanctuary?

Support comes in many forms — volunteering, donating, sponsoring an animal, or simply spreading the word. Every act of kindness helps sustain the farm and sanctuary so we can continue offering education, care, and rescue services.
